Class 1 2021 - 2022

Miss Mapp

Class 1 is based in a brand new classroom in the secondary building.  We moved to our new classroom during the Summer term of 2020 and have settled in well. The pupils are mostly Year 7 with two Year 8 pupils. We work from a Primary format in which the pupils are taught by me for all subjects (apart from PE and DT) as part of a transition programme into the high school. This allows pupils to get used to the secondary school building and environment before they start following a secondary school timetable. This is very exciting and we are finding that our pupils are having a much smoother and settled transition.

During the Autumn term our focus was Private Peaceful and World War One. The pupils really enjoyed this project based learning and showed a huge amount of empathy for what life was like during this time. In Science we learnt about cells and the human body. The pupils attended Dinedor as part of our outdoor learning every Monday- they enjoyed orienteering, bush craft skills and outdoor art activities, but their favourite part was definitely cooking over the fire!

The Spring term has sadly got off to a difficult start with the Government announcing (an unexpected) national lockdown. We have some pupils working in school and some pupils working from home. The pupils in Class 1 have been amazing at completing their work using TEAMS which has been a new way of learning for us all. In English pupils have had a writing focus on ‘How To Train Your Dragon’. In Science the focus has been the human skeleton, muscles and their functions. In History our focus has been how entertainment has changed over the years.

The Pupils have shown real resilience and tolerance during their new way of learning. They have shown that they are effective communicators using Microsoft Teams to take part in their learning and to communicate daily with staff. They have shown huge ambition when taking on new challenges and emotional resilience adapting to a new way of life that has been challenging for us all.

We are so proud of you!

 Keep up the good work!

 Miss Mapp, Yazz and Caroline.
