8P

Ms Powell

Class 8P are predominantly a year 8 class with class teacher Miss Powell and learning support assistants Yazz and Glenda. Mrs Greenhill is also teaching in class on Mondays and Tuesdays this term.

In English, our focus for this half term is the Carnegie medal award book, 'Skellig' by David Almond. Whilst reading this, we will be having a go at hot seating, writing diary entries, writing newspaper articles, writing a new chapter for the book in Almond’s style and even writing their own prequel to Skellig.

In Maths, our first topics are number based; place value, addition & subtraction and multiplication & division. As part of this, we will be looking back on what we already know, and building on this knowledge with bigger and more complex numbers. The children will also be securing their knowledge of timestables which we will practise each week through our timed tests.

Our Science topic for this half term is Evolution and inheritance.

Our History topic this half term is The Transatlantic Slave Trade and we will also be covering modern day slavery as part of this.

We will also be learning how to greet each other in French and learning about the culture in France.

Other important things to remember are that we have PE on Monday mornings with Mr Reed and will be cooking on some Monday afternoons.

We are all looking forward to a brilliant year!
