Welcome to Class 9M
Welcome back, Year 9! I hope you all had a restful summer—didn’t it fly by? We’re kicking off an exciting new academic year in our temporary home at Gardners Hall, and I’m thrilled to be welcoming you all back.
This year marks the beginning of your GCSE journey, with everyone selecting their options. I’m especially excited to be teaching the Tourism and Hospitality option. We’ll be diving into the world of customer service, travel, and events—and once we return to the main site in the new year, we’ll start our practical cooking sessions, which I know many of you are looking forward to!
English: We’ll begin with a unit on short stories, exploring a range of authors including Roald Dahl. Many of you enjoyed Lamb to the Slaughter last term, and we’ll build on that by analysing different writing styles and author techniques.
Maths & Reading: Pupils will continue to be streamed based on ability, following the success of last year’s approach.
Science: We’re starting the Biology GCSE course, beginning with an in-depth look at cells. This early start will give you plenty of time to absorb and apply your knowledge ahead of exams.
Humanities: Our first topic is the Industrial Revolution—we’ll explore how it shaped modern society and its lasting impact on our world today.
We’ve got a busy and exciting term ahead, filled with learning, creativity, and growth. We are here to support you every step of the way, and I can’t wait to see what we achieve together.
