Welcome to the School
I am delighted to welcome you to the Brookfield School website; thank you for taking the time to find out more about our school and how we work with our wonderful pupils, parent/ carers and local community.
The school is based on three sites with the primary and secondary provision on Grandstand Road, our intervention centre at The Brookfield Hub (Broadlands Lane) and our alternative Key Stage 4 provision on Symonds Street (the Arrow Centre) which places an emphasis on vocational learning and preparation for adulthood.
We provide a broad and balanced curriculum with a strong emphasis on nurture and enrichment through small classes (maximum of 10 pupils ordinarily) each staffed with a teacher and at least two teaching assistants. We know that pupils achieve most when they feel safe, when they know that they are accepted unconditionally and when they know that their individual learning needs are considered carefully.
The Brookfield School works hard to provide the most appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of each individual pupil, based on ability and interest and the appropriate level of challenge to ensure that pupils achieve. Pupils take nationally accredited qualifications including a range of GCSEs, BTECs and Functional Skills in Maths and English. Pupils choose from a wide range of activities that help to develop their self esteem, confidence, social skills and ability to work in a team. We have a strong emphasis on physical and outdoor learning such as forest schools, and enhanced PE offer including swimming, rock climbing and using the local gym. All pupils have a core vocational and work related learning offer and receive 1:1 support in Careers Education and Guidance from Y7 onwards and all pupils have a personalised pathway in readiness for their transition to Further Eductaion, training and/ or employment.
In addition, pupils have access to Emotional Literacy Support Assistants, nurture groups, peer mentors, 1:1 coaching, counsellors as well as a very extensive local support network. We are proud of our reputation as a caring school and value our partnership with parents and carers as the key to success for all our pupils. Our aim is to enable every pupil to leave The Brookfield School equipped to lead successful, safe and happy lives; to be able to create and sustain positive relationships; to be able to contribute to wider society and to ensure that in both their work and personal life they have the skills they need to flourish in the next stages of their lives.
We are proud of our children and our school, and I would be delighted to show you around and answer any questions you may have - please contact the school office to arrange a tour.
I look forward to meeting you soon,
Michelle Parkes
