Reading and Phonics
Primary
Phonics
We use Read, Write Inc. as our scheme of work to support literacy.
Pupils are grouped into Letters and Sounds Phases, with targeted interventions delivered by a specially trained HLTA and TA. Some classes have daily phonics lessons.
Guided reading
All classes in Primary have a daily guided reading session, and there are also opprtunities for 1:1 reading. Books are sent home to parents and carers so that children can read aloud and continue to enjoy the written word.
Secondary
At Brookfield School, we are committed to guiding our students through an enriching journey towards achieving their GCSEs in English Language and Literature in line with the AQA syllabus. This carefully structured program begins in Year 9, where students are introduced to a variety of classic and modern texts, including A Christmas Carol, Blood Brothers, and Macbeth. As part of our new initiative, we have set high expectations for all students, fostering a culture of ambition, diligence, and intellectual curiosity. By immersing students in diverse literature, we aim to develop their literary, ensuring they are well-prepared by the time that they reach the end of Year 11. This initiative is designed not only to challenge but also to inspire students to have high academic expectations of themselves and be ambitious in the future.
