Welcome to 8M

It has been lovely to start the year off in secondary with so many exciting things happening.

Our first English text this year is Skellig. The pupils will be exploring figurative language and how impactful this can be to bring their writing to life. Further texts through the year include Percy Jackson, The Tempest and a lovely film called The Piano.

This year the approach to teaching maths has changed and we will be using the Mastery approach to gain a deeper understanding of key concepts which will give the pupils a good foundation when moving up to start preparing for their GCSEs.

PE is a firm favourite with the all the pupils in class and not only will they have opportunities to improve their skills in a number of sports, sessions at the gym and on the cycling track will also be included, along with learning the theory that goes into keeping themselves healthy and fit.

The children have all expressed that they would like to take part in more trips outside of the school to experience hands on learning and improve their social skills. Our first trip is to Hereford Cathedral where we will be looking at the Mappa Mundi, the largest medieval map, to support our map reading skills and show how important map reading has been through the ages.

This year we are encouraging the pupils to take part in more class discussions during RE and PSHE. The children have certainly embraced this and some lively discussions have already been had.

The pupils have had the opportunity this year to become music producers and have been producing HipHop tracks using the computers in class. Who knew they could be so musical!
