Welcome to 8T
What a fantastic start to the school year! As a team, we are very impressed with how well everyone has settled into our new class.
We've really enjoyed our class text 'Skellig' this term, which has inspired both the children's writing and their art. We will also be looking at William Blake's poetry this half term and producing our own poems inspired by Skellig. Later in the year we will be enjoying Shakespeare and using his works to inspire our own playscripts. We will also be using a short, musical film to inspire our writing as well as diving into the wonderful world of Greek mythology with Percy Jackson.
In maths we are following a mastery approach; learning through small steps that enable the children to be successful in every lesson and ensure learning is embedded before moving on to the next step.
In science we have been using microscopes to observe the structures of animal and plant cells, learning about their common functions. In geography we have learnt all about maps and how to read them - a fantastic skill to have ready for the adventures that lie ahead! Next half term our humanities topic will be the Ancient Greeks, which will also inspire our English and art work.
In music this year our focus in on production; the children have been learning how to create tracks by layering sounds using ICT, this term we have been learning how to create a Hip Hop inspired piece. Also, in ICT, the children have been using Raspberry Pi's to develop their coding skills.
Listening skills are a key focus for us with daily listening and appraising opportunities using different genres of music from around the world, the children are also developing their listening skills during our discussion based RE and PRHSE; these promote the skills necessary for the children to develop effective communication.
The children have weekly PE sessions with our specialist PE teacher Mr Read, as well as lessons in PE Theory - there are also lots of extra opportunities during our weekly Enrichment sessions and after school clubs.
Here's to a great year ahead!
